At MeltDown Comics: on December 5th @ 7 PM, False Start will host a screening of “Don’t Need You”, a short documentary about the origins of Riot Grrrl, a feminist punk rock movement from the early 1990’s. Through making music, playing shows and writing zines, Riot Grrrls created a movement centered on creativity, self-expression and making marginalized voices heard. In addition to the screening there will be an art show of work that embodies the do-it-yourself, low art, punk rock spirit of Riot Grrrl.
Call for submissions: Riot Grrrls didn’t wait to be backed by a major label to make their music, Zinesters don’t wait for a publisher to give them permission to publish, and we want art from artist’s who believe in doing-it-yourself, not waiting for someone to do it for you. We’re interested in any medium that can be hung on a wall and are open to any subject matter and content. We want low-brow art, outsider art, art from artists who think creation and self-expression are important above all else.
